What is a glass fibre lining?
Also referred to as GRP (glass reinforced plastic/polyester) and "fibreglass", glass fibre linings are composite materials. The core component is made of ultrafine glass fibre shards saturated in polyester resin. When wet, this material can be shaped and moulded to fit a variety of surfaces and structures. Upon curing, it hardens and forms a very strong barrier that is water repellent and chemically resistant with an exceptionally high strength-to-weight ratio comparable to steel. More detail about the process can be found here.
Glass fibre linings are recommended for a variety of surfaces and structures, from concrete through to steel and existing GRP. The majority of applications centre on construction and industrial processing industries. They are very effective in extending the lifetime of existing surfaces and structures, often avoiding the need for costly replacements.
